Before arriving in Belfast, this was one of the pieces I wanted to see in person. Tucked between brick buildings, the bright blue face immediately stands out against its surroundings. The bold colours and expressive features make it one of those pieces that draws your attention long before you're standing in front of it.
Created by Belfast artist Wee Nuls (Nuala Convery), the piece was part of a group of three large street-art works known as Three Ugly Mugs, featuring work by Wee Nuls alongside artists JMK and KVLR. Convery's colourful, character-driven work often challenges beauty ideals, gender inequality and sexism, using humour and a playful approach to bring those ideas into public spaces.
