Before visiting Kampong Gelam, Batik Girl was one of the murals I wanted to see in person. The colours stood out immediately, vibrant flowers, flowing green hair, and intricate patterns inspired by traditional batik textiles. Even in a neighbourhood known for its street art, this piece was impossible to pass without stopping for a closer look.
Created by Willy Gómez, Batik Girl draws inspiration from the batik traditions that have long been part of Singapore's cultural heritage. The mural blends contemporary street art with patterns and motifs associated with batik textiles, creating a piece that feels connected to the history and character of Kampong Gelam.
