Artist: Skubalisto Location: Cape Town, South Africa Photo Date: April 13, 2022
Before arriving in Cape Town, this was one of the murals I wanted to see in person. Set against layers of blue, teal, yellow, and purple, the portrait stands out immediately. The combination of bold colour and calm expression gives the piece a presence that feels both powerful and reflective at the same time.
Created by South African street artist Skubalisto, A Symbol of Hope was part of a series of murals created on Upper Bree Street during the pandemic. Skubalisto described his intention as creating symbols of hope; images that could give people a moment to breathe, reflect, smile, and step away from the fear surrounding them.
If you're the artist, or know how to reach them, we'd love to connect. Our goal is to properly credit and celebrate the artists behind the work we discover.
